Matariki
Matariki is the Māori New Year.
Matariki is also known as the seven sisters. The names of the seven sisters are Te Uru o Te Rangi, Tupua a Rangi, Tupua a Nuku, Waiti, Waita, Waipuna a Rangi and Mereope. Matariki is the Māori name for the cluster of stars.
Matariki rises in midwinter, late May or early June. Many people speak of the seven Matariki stars as a mother and her daughters.
